Canva Education is a free version of the Canva tool, intended for teachers and students in primary and secondary schools. It is a platform for creating visual and multimedia content that is most often used in practice for presentations, posters, infographics and short videos, especially in project work.
The main advantage of the tool is its ease of use and integration with existing digital systems in schools. At the same time, as with tools that include automation and artificial intelligence, Canva has no pedagogical value in itself. The effects depend on how it is used to set tasks, guide students and encourage critical thinking.
Integration with existing systems
Canva can be connected to a number ofLearning Management Systems (LMS), including Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Moodle, Canvas and others. This allows you to share tasks, view and comment on student work and track activities without introducing additional tools.
Artificial Intelligence in the Canva Education Environment
Canva includes a set of AI-based tools within the Magic Studio suite, such as Magic Write, Magic Animate, tools for generating images, videos and audio, and tools for translating (Translate) and converting text to speech (Text to Speech).
These tools can speed up the creation of teaching materials and make it easier to adapt content to different learners. At the same time, it is important to emphasize that AI tools do not understand the context of the lesson, learning outcomes or the age of the students. Without clear teacher guidance, there is a risk of superficial or uncritical use of the generated content.
Student safety and protection
Canva Education includes content and data protection mechanisms united in the Canva Safe AI initiative. These include filtering inappropriate content using machine learning, blocked search terms and a combination of automated and human moderation, in compliance with regulations such as GDPR.
Students cannot open an educational account on their own, but access is provided to them by a teacher via invitation, which ensures the use of the tools within a supervised educational environment.
How do I get access to a Canva Education license?
Elementary and middle school teachers can request access to a Canva Education license at https://www.canva.com/edu-signup/. Verification is carried out by applying with an official e-mail address (@skole.hr) or proof of teaching status and employment.
If you already have a Canva account opened with a private email address (for example Gmail), you can still use it for Canva Education. In this case, verification is not carried out automatically via e-mail address, but you need to submit proof of your teaching status and employment.
Once Canva approves the verification, your existing account will be upgraded to the educational version, and all previously created materials will remain available.
